    Picked up a Henry...

Couldn't help myself...Grandkids took .22's when they left last week and Academy had the lever action 22 mag $519...cheaper than Bud's. Sweet little rifle. I'll try open sights first...then maybe red dot. Now how to carry it on ebike?

I bought the standard Henry .22 lever action couple years ago also from Academy. Beat Walmart's price and in addition Academy honored a discount flyer on purchases over $100.00. It will shoot shorts, longs, and long rifle. I put Truglo fiber optic sites on front and rear instead of the notch sites it came with. Made accuracy an improvement with my the old eyes. If you go that route let me know. Somehow I have extra both front and rear Truglo fiber optic sites that will work on Henry Golden Boy and magnums.

Thanks for your kind offer. I like the standard sights and think that'll work fine...hope so. Ordered sling and will be sighting in Thursday.

I think a tooled leather saddle scabbard for a Henry is a must!

I got a Henry 22 WMR for under $200 when they first came out, very accurate, good wood BUT the receiver was NOT blued. You can take your fingernail and take it down to the bare metal. I've seen others that were blued with no problems.

Appears all the Henry "bluing" on the receiver isn't bluing and the Golden Boy is applied brass cover and not solid brass.
Maybe they sell a brass after market cover ?
Here is video of what another guy did but doesn't elaborate on products.

Is that paint? As in black paint on the receiver? Doesn't look like any bluing I've seen.

It is. I've seen some where people buff it off and polish the receiver. It looks pretty good.

Have a youth bolt action that does not eject well. Tried multiple brands of ammo with some worse than others and even gone through the trouble of sending it back twice. Pretty frustrating.

Is the receiver/cover on the receiver/side plates actually steel? It does not look like steel in SE Texas. I'd expect at least some patina of rust on bare steel. Bet it's some other material.

I think they are Zamak, same stuff the gears on old Craftsman lathes are made of.

I did not know that. I had a 1939 Craftsman lathe (AAA Manufacturing, not Atlas). My Nephew uses it now.

I love henrys. Got the lever for my oldest and the survival one for my own amusement. Each kid is getting a 22 for their first gun. Bandit4 will be getting a ruger 10/22. Not sure what I'll get the youngest.

Little disappointed hearing this with Henry rifle. I almost bought one in elcampo but the guy at the gun shop on 59 was more interested in his phone

Very happy with the Henry 22 mag. It's on at 50 yards with rear sight in highest position, windage was good, and I really like the open sights.....but I did remove the hood on front. I have a red dot and scope but they'll stay in storage until I need them. A no-drill sling coming in Saturday so I can carry on ebike. I found the big marshmallows make good targets in stock tank...taste good too.
