    Bittersweet parenting

Just dropped my daughter and 3 friends off at the airport. Oahu bound. Super Excited for them, but this also the start of a new phase of being a parent that i am not ready for 🤣😭.

No family upheaval other than daughter morphing into an adult 😊

Better Oahu than her going to some third world foreign country. Thinking of the movie Taken. Sad but Oahu has turned into further western zip code for California.

Alone? No offense, but no way in hell am I sending my 17 yo daughter to Hawaii with friends. But I understand and sympathize with the jist of your post. I have 2 daughters about to graduate HS. It's hard. You just have to have faith that you have prepared them for the world

They are all good kids. All four graduated HS early. Daughter works 30 hours per week, stays out of trouble and starting college in fall. She will likely be doing a semester in japan summer of '27 as well. Its here, she has a great head on her shoulders and i have faith in her endeavors. Still happening way too fast though

It's not them, its those others.

But I personally applaud you. Pretty sure the 70s knew where us kids were, but our parents sure didn't and could give a rip until we broke a bone or crashed the car.

Too much fear today. Good on you for sticking a finger in its face.

Haters will hate, but the truth of the matter is no one knows your daughter better than you. All any of us can do is raise them the best we can and then step back and see if it worked. I pray it all works out and they stay safe making memories.

In the meantime, good luck trying to get some sleep.

Well , mines 18 and off again for competion this summer with Boston crusaders - part of colorgard . She did it last year - nonstop travel(17 states ) , sleeping on gym floors , sidewalk breakfast , lunch, dinner , once every 2 weeks laundry day . I was scared to death , but , she followed her compass mom and me gave her the previous 17 yrs. Did well. At the end of this summer and tour she’s off to college - my little girl no more . Some of this DF group have seen her with me fishing and hunting.

My boss' "kiddo" 19yo does color/winter guard as well. He has spent last couple of summers on the west coast. Been some great experiences for him

Mine at 22 joined with nine other college girls from all over the country to raise awareness for human/sex trafficking.
They rode bicycles with all of their belongings and sleeping bags/pads in panniers from Seattle to San Diego. 1,700 miles in 40 days. They had a van with the tent and food (another story)
They slept in RV parks, camp grounds, churches, community centers, people’s back yards.
It was tough at first but then I realized how much she changed the world and how much it changed her.
They are badasses and making the world a better place.
We’d love to help you out. Which way did you come in?
