I have kilo on a cable run and I’m worried about him getting off . If he gets off he will take off chasing something. So I’m thinking of getting some temporary fencing . Chain link about 6’ tall and have it set up around kilo’s run. I know sounds crazy but I don’t want to lose kilo. Who should I use to do this . Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks

Totally normal IMO Randy. No decent person wants their dog running off. What you brought up could look very good and be useful forever. No matter how good a dog is, there WILL be times, and possibly often, that you use it. Your idea makes perfect sense; do it. I like to bounce ideas here too. Most likely you will hear interesting suggestions. (I know you asked about temporary, and I didn't mention in comment, I am meaning a kennel in general in your case)

I'd think actual chain link fencing is going to be disappointing for a temporary fence, it does a lot better when you get it tensioned and everything like in a permanent installation. I think I'd just look into a roll of the field fencing that has the grid pattern that'll suit you and put that up on some regular wood posts...Comment

I have that problem with my dog. He likes to run the property but will take off if he see's something. Not sure of your space situation but I have a stake pounded into the ground and I attach a 100ft heavy duty leash. No obstructions around that run so he cant get tangled up. Just hook it up to his collar and let him go. With that said this works for me beacuse I have a lot of open pasture. He loves it.Comment

A shock collar works wonders in teaching a dog not run off and chase people/things. I'm not saying you shouldn't put up a fence, but being able to let your dog run around with you while you're out doing things around your house is what makes having a dog fun and special.
Mine used to run to the end of the drive and meet the neighbors doing their morning walks/runs or out on their side by sides cruising the neighborhood in the evening. And then he'd just follow them home. BretE turned me on to a shock collar and after using it one time, my dog doesn't even think about chasing anyone or anything anymore. He hangs out with me wherever I am and I don't even put the collar on him anymore.

He’s a coonhound and when he gets a scent he’s gone . I have him on cable but cables break and wear out . I’m gonna keep him on the run . If the cable breaks I’ll have him enclosed in a fence. I’m usually here so I should catch him if the cable breaks.Meet KiloComment

Had an Aussie who saw some rabbits come out of the woods into a clearing near dusk at a place I took her to throw frisbees. She looked at them and started to approach and when they started to go back into the woods, she lit out after them. I could hear twigs snapping and shrubs rustling for a while then it became more and more distant. She never barked once. I yelled at her to come about ten times, increasingly louder and with a more PO'd tone in my voice. Eventually, she came out with a hundred twigs stuck in her coat and the happiest look I had seen on her face in a long time.
She didn't get the memo that rabbits can't be herded.

Is there a possibility to use an invisible fence? Maybe bury the "fence/wire" part underground at an adequate distance from the dog run? I have never actually had one, so?
The reason that it came to mind is that burying the "fence" part would not be labor intensive if you have a tractor/4 wheeler as the trench required for that part could be accomplished using a "single tine plow". I used that to bury 400' of 3/4" and 1/2" PVC in my yard - took an hour or so.Last edited by Adobe11SD; 5 days ago.Comment

My son in law had one of those invisible fences for his lab, she learned pretty quick that if she ran just as hard as she could, it only hurt for a second and then she was gone.Comment

Yea kilo would figure that out quickly. Those shock collars are not bulletproof with kilo kilo is all about his nose he has a good smeller -
That sounds like my dog, but I have a 6' privacy fence around the back yard and I kind of hate it for him because he can't see out, but I can't let him out in the front, or he's gone. He always comes back in an hour or two, but I'm afraid he'll get hurt or get into trouble. I wish that I could have a chain link fence for him, but my HOA would have a fit.
