Riding Mower Maintenance

What are you guys using to ger underneath your riding lawn mower? Wanted to check the blades and clean that area out.

Hoist in the workshop to lift front end....sorry for the smart ass answer but works nicely. Simple chain hoist from harbor freight hanging from the rafters.

Guess I should have mentioned I do not have a workshop or garage. Just a shed. That will probaly influence recomemndations..

Come along from eye bolts in the frame work of my garage door.

You can get a lift. I just lift mine up (rear engine) and put a couple of 2x4s under the front end...then minimize the amount of time I spend under there. Milwaukee impact make short work of removing the blade fasteners.

well, if you don't have a tractor with a front end loader, just go ahead and get one, that's the only way I know how to do it.

Floor jack. Keep it simple stupid. Dont over think it.

You get enough height with a floor jack?

Easily. More than enough....thats why I suggested it. I just shoulder on the ground and impact to remove the bolt and done. Simple.

I just pull the deck off my JD.
Takes less than a minute and can grease spindles also.

I used to use a mower lift but switched to using the tractor.

I have a zero turn mower and I just pick mine up by hand and set the front edge of the mower on blocks. Most of the weight of those are over the rear wheels. I had a 6x6 post that I just cut a couple of 18 inch blocks from and that's what it sits on.

I had a lawn tractor/mower about 15 years ago and I used to just drive it up on the trailer ramps and set the brake. Plenty of room to crawl underneath it that way.

beerdruid - you made me think about one for myself and start looking around. So far, my biggest light bulb moment due to this is considering a manual chain lift. They're cheap and last forever.

Chain to tractor bucket or forks, with a battery impact can swap out blades in no time, like a pit crew. Always have a spare set of sharpened blades ready to change out.

I use a cable crank deer hoist to lift it to clean the deck

never even thought about using it for my ZT
