Nothing burger.

They were forecasting for a high chance of rain all day here south of Houston and Galveston.

And other functions like Maps uses the forecasted information as well. Every time I searched a location it would pop up with tropical warnings and flash flood warnings. The sprinkle was barely noticeable. Didnt even damp the back porch. I never even needed the windshield wipers.

it jogged W a few hrs before coming ashore.. Cameron would've been landfall but it turned W at the last hr
the head honcho from the NHC explained that these small storms are hard to predict acct small things can really throw them off
in this case a blow-up on it's W side drug it closer to Sabine Pass..
as far as wide-spread alerts, that just CYA forecasting

SGrem . NOAA started using, wait for it... AI for their GFS FV3
ensemble forecasting.

They run a few computer simulations and make a guess! We were supposed to be getting 50 MPH gusts here in Cypress around noon, so I moved my truck out from under trees and parked it next to the house. Turned out to be one of the least windy days in weeks!

Guess they treat storms like we treat guns. Better to warn all and not fire a shot than to Not carry and get flooded....or something like that.

Still will have newborns in bubble wrap before their first night in their own crib.

Drove in this morning and it was tumble weeds. Coming home this afternoon had the tumble weeds with cricket nests. Even on I 10. Need to figure out how to scare everyone for opening deer weekend....

Because we have built a society That Values safety above everything. We have to structure all forecasting of weather As an exercise in Worst case scenario management. it may all go back to the hysteria around hurricane Rita, but it fits right in with everything else we do. common sense be damned as long as nobody stubs their toe Or gets a mild Sunburn.

I think its due to the Hill Country Floods and now everybody is sue happy if you don't "warn" them 300 times in every way possible. No one is accountable for themselves anymore.

The classic joke says that weather forecasting is the only job where you can be 50% (or sometimes jokingly 80% to 90%) wrong and still keep your job.

Almost like a fishing guide who takes people out on a given day just to find out that the fish just didn’t seem to be biting. I mean, hard to believe they get paid for being that wrong..
