Astros keep coming up as a team in the mix for picking up Skubal. What are yalls thoughts???

Depends on how much they have to give up for a short-term rental. He will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. No way the Astros are going to resign him to a long-term contract at 30 plus million a year.
Besides that, I heard LMJ was on his way back. Who needs Skubal when you have LMJ?

I'm sure the Tigers want prospects, that's something we don't have. If they're interested in a couple .200 hitting, average arm outfielders we can help. We have several to choose from.

Skubal would obviously be the costliest to acquire. While he’s a half-season rental, the demand this summer for the best pitcher in baseball over the last two seasons will be historic. Detroit will be able to generate a strong enough bidding war to receive at least two top-100 prospects for Skubal. On that note, per MLB Pipeline, the Astros have only two top-100 prospects in Kevin Alvarez (69th overall) and Xavier Neyens (87th overall). That likely wouldn’t be enough to beat the top offer.

Nor should they do that move. They are not a strong enough team that one pitcher would make them world series contenders, and those two prospects are the future.

I could not agree more. Any team that is a wild card, fringe playoff team should not trade for Tarik. Their chances are pretty slim of winning it all. There are 7-8 teams that would vastly improve their chance to win it all if they make the deal for him. Fringe teams, like the stros, should not even consider it.

Astros are 4th best in the AL with 424 runs scored. They are 2nd worst in the AL with 469 runs allowed while not all of that is pitching, most of that is pitching, specifically starting pitching, their bullpen ERA since Hader's return, and Abreau's exit is among the best in the league. One arm can make a huge difference, just ask Clemens when they brought Petit on board. With the poor showing that Imai has made, albeit a short sample size, mainly because he was "Unavailable", and Burrows, and Gordon, and Alexander, and Teng, and all of the other guys they have run out there that were never gonna be legit starters, only P Lambert has been a pleasant surprise. Maybe Javier comes back with that invisiball, and is lights out, or LMJ is the second coming of Jesus(not), but they need as many real MLB pitchers as possible, and they have a shot. I'll say it till I die, you think you have enough pitching, then get more pitching. Damn the cost.

Well they sent Burrows down to Sugarland, maybe he can get some minor league hitters out, maybe.

According to Blum and Kalas, going into his start yesterday, Burrows was the only starting pitcher for the Astros who had been on the active roster since opening day. And somehow they keep scratching and clawing their way to relevancy. In part to a crummy AL West, but they can't control who's in their division.

Just as an aside, did y'all catch the shots of the balls going into the bleachers? There wer 10's of people there to catch them, Washington is right up there with Miami as a great baseball city!

Yeah I noticed that as well, not only in the outfield a lot of the prime infield seats were empty as well. The nationals are a young exciting team but sems the fans don't care enough to show up.

But on a positive note, LMJ pitched 4 innings and only gave up 4 runs against AAA hitters. An ERA of 9, that's better than 10 isn't it?

The bullpen saved the day yesterday. I saw that since May 21st or something we have the best record in the Majors.

A big part of the bullpen success yesterday was the imaculate decision making by Espada to bring King in in the 7th, to face the meat of the Nats order, then follow up with Abreau in the 8th, who by the way hit 98 on the gun a couple times. Espada is the man!

Is it a curse? Yordan was player of the month for April and didn’t do well in May. Spaghetti was pitcher of the month for May and sucked the whole month of June. Yordan was player of the week for last week and he started this week going 1 for 9 with just a single. Curse?
