Crazy demands. I’ve heard from 25% to 72%.
Times have changed. First strike I was involved in was in 1964. We were out for a week for a $.02 raise.
That old adage that states "If you want something done right you must do it yourself!", didn't quite hold true regarding my latest surgery.

In 1964 I was making $1.50/hr as a carpenter and thought I was doing great. LOL

Unions should be banned. If you don't like your job go find another one. Lazy bastards.

I would never work for a union company, and I despise employees with the union entitlement mentality.

Public sector/ govt employee unions should definitely be outlawed.

Quess I may be in the minority here, I grew up in a blue collar family. After WWII, my dad and all my uncles worked in factories and were all union members, working for the Man was not easy back then. Before I went to the Navy and then college, I worked alongside my dad in a factory, so I got a little education as to why we have unions. Now that being said times have changed and the need for unions in some industries are not warranted i.e. Starbucks. Unions have their place and serve a purpose of keeping livable wages and benefits for those employed in mainly manual labor industries. I don't believe in "white collar" unions. And definitely some union demands have crossed the line therefore creating negative connotations.
          Just my $.02.

If the unions did any of the above, I would think that Detroit, NY,NJ would all be shining examples of successful cities. JMO

“blue collar” and “union” aren’t synonyms…

I use to sell Schlitz beer. I was in the union but when they went on strike I said hell no. I had a newborn and needed money. I really never cared or understood it. I have no regrets. I guess I was a scab. So be it. Seems like a scam to me. JMO!

Look at the union demand for no more automation of the port infrustructure. Technology always wins in the long run. Always. Productively prevails in an open marketplace.

If employees can collectively bargain with employers, why dont we allow employers to collectively bargain with employees. Why is one legal, and one illegal? Picking winners and losers via government.

when I hired w/ Union Pacific in 98, you HAD to join the union...
I was trained by Southern Pacific guys, UP had just aquired/ merged w/ SP and and we stayed separate till about 2001 or so...
which meant seniority and routes, yards were still separate...
2W's was probably Santa Fe before the Burlington Northen merger which became BNSF...
new hires are still forced to join one of the RR unions as far as I know..
UP and BNSF are the 2 major RR's W of the Miss. NS (Northfolk Southern) and CSX are the major players East of the Miss

My kinfolk from the Gonzales/Yoakum area probably worked with you at SP/UP. All i know is if he got in a bind for missing work because he was out baling hay, or combining corn, the Union always saved his butt.

Could be a RR worker >>had<< an agreement for 10 days off at a time, mark-up for a day and take 10 days off again...WITHOUT pay. About the only thing a union is good for today on the RR is safety matters

Marx and Engels would suggest unions are elementary class training on socialism. Bringing workers together in solidarity, in schools of socialism. To restrict competition among workers, and thus,
wage a daily struggle against Capital. A means to end wage labor and help bring about socialism, and eventually communism.

No one has to join a Union. Instead, they choose to join a Union. In exchange for employment, they joint a workers collective.

I’m sure there are some decent unions out there, but I haven’t had any experience with those. I worked for a company that practically forced you to join, but wouldn’t do shit to save your job. I watched people get walked to the gate weekly. I smashed my finger BAD one night, and I literally wrapped it in paper towels and electrical tape and sucked it up until my shift was over. I never reported it because if you had a recordable injury, they would find a way to fire you.

Then there are the entitled union mentality dipshits. You know, the ones who feel the company should be grateful they work there. And the ones who feel they are underpaid, so they steal from the company (coffee, TP, gloves, $3k explosion proof LED lights, etc) to make up for it. Nevermind the fact they are already stealing from the company by being laid up on their lazy asses for 9 out of 10 hours of the work day. I once got asked to put in for a supervisor role in a different department. My response was “You don’t want me in that position” to which they replied “Why is that?” I told them “Because I would fire half of that department on day 1 because they are worthless.” If you can’t tell, I can’t stand people with shitty work ethic.

Unless things have changed on the RR you HAVE to pay international dues......might not claim to be a member BUT you pay to be one. Being a union member saved me paying a 'trial' lawyer 15-20% more in my settlement.
