    Pass it on.

As many of you already know, I get more enjoyment out of helping others catch fish than I do catching them myself. I was lucky enough to get to do that this Saturday. One of our members contacted me and asked if I could put his teenage son on some big fish, and of course I said yes. We got down to the beach just before the falling tide and the conditions were perfect, howling winds, huge waves, and chocolate milk water, everything you need for a successful surf fishing trip. While they were less enthusiastic as they looked at the big waves and dirty water, I assured them, "There's gold in them there hills". I showed them how to properly rig up cut crab and where to cast and we started setting out rods. In typical Sharkchum fashion, the first rod took off just minutes after putting it in the rod holder, and it didn't stop until they were tired of reeling in fish. Along with a ice chest full of keeper drum and some big ugly's, he was able to catch his first bull red, and it was a monster. Don't let the pictures fool you, the kid was twice my size, so the fish look smaller than they actually were. My wife had to reel in a couple when multiple rods went off at once, but he got to catch everything else. I think I made a friend for life, and he's already begging his dad to bring him back. I love days like this. It allows me to pass on my knowledge to others and to see the joy that it brings. I get to teach about true conservation and why it's important. I get the share the beauty of the natural world around us, and how we can all do our part to preserve it for future generations. It will probably be a month or so before I even see the beach again, let alone fish, but this trip will hold me over until then.

Great work Chum! Getting kids (even big ones) into fishing is one of the best things we can do for them. Kids who fish don’t go to jail…bc you can’t fish from jail.

Like you I would rather take someone fishing and have them catch the big.

Only problem is I can't catch them like you.

                            Way to go.
