    Best Bait

What's the best coon bait that will not attract a ton of ants? I use dukes traps.

The problem is there is corn all over the ground. They are hitting my feeders hard. I'm thinking about trying dry dog food.

Last year, I started out using a mix of wet and dry kat fud, but after running out of wet kat fud I just used dry. It worked great. I use the dog proof traps.

I second the mini marshmallows. The kids caught 6 in about 3 days using the mini marshmallows in the dog proof traps. Probably do attract a few ants but pretty easy to pitch them to the side and reload with more marshmallows.

I've also used mini marshmallows as well as sardines in oil from Dollar General. The last one I caught I got with a dead starling - go figure

Back in my trapping days sardines were hard to beat for coon bait.

Ants is the problem. They will completely cover the trap over night

Yep, my dad would seperate the sardines in little baggies, then punch a couple holes in the bag, and set on the trigger hook. I bet we only caught 2 bobcats in all those years of trapping, and maybe 2 fox as well. These days if you set 15 traps out, you would have at least 15 coons the next day, lol. We would average 40 a trapping season back then running 12-15 traps.
