1st time in over 20 years no dove lease

This is the first time in over 20 tears I haven't had a season dove lease. Flyways change and such and now not sure where to go. All my local areas suck. Hondo sucks, and it was a slam dunk all my life. I'm hoping to do some day trips this year to try to figure out a good area.

It'll be hard to not hunt with my boys as they were included previously. Not sure I'll ever find that deal again. yall keep the info going to help those of us like me out! There's nothing more exciting than a good barrel burner hunt. šŸ‘

We've been dove hunting near Los Fresnos the past couple of years...solid dove there.
Life its too short to own ugly handguns and drink fruity whiskey.

That would be a long trip and probably ok for a special one-off hunt. Thanks for the info TH....

RGV is the way to go, try Mathers Farms phenomenal white wing hunting right off the river, Brownsville area in sunflower fields! Bring some heavy load shots for the big paloma blanca and ringnecks..

Maybe that's where all the Hondo birds went....

I know, to some public lands aren't anywhere near as sexy as having a private lease behind a gate, but we've had some pretty good hunts on some of the TPWD Public lands....I think the year-long permit is like $40 bucks....check out some of the places near you on the interactive map https://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/hunt/public/

Thanks Jay. I played the Public Lands Permit game a long time ago when my kids were young and I couldn't afford nice things. I've never had a good hunt on one, it was all bald pasture with no feed or water for doves.

I think I'm prob more interested in areas they are flying well so I can concentrate on setting up some activity in those areas. My family has a house on the island, let me know if you hear how they are doing down there.

A little known fact is a lot of land you speak of in E Texas will be let go and returned to the timber companies and LEASED OUT by the timber co.

A friends dad used to farm cotton and milo on George Ranch property and we got to hunt it every year. Always lights out the first split. Now, there is a high school, subdivision, and apartments.
