It's funny that you posted about otters. Yesterday, driving south of Houston, in the George Ranch area, I saw what looked like a dead otter on the side of the road. My first thought was, nah that must be a nutria, but it had a fat hairy tail. Is there even a remote chance that there could be otters living in that area?I told them we’ve already got oneComment

We used to live in Damon on 5 acres, and there was a large oxbow nearby that generally held water. I would walk to the oxbow and take pictures of ducks, and one afternoon I saw what I thought was a nutria, but sure enough it was an otter. My guess is it was visiting the oxbow from the creek nearby. I never saw it again.Comment

In my younger days I tried to catch them on various homemade dough baits, but no luck
Did get a few with a bow
The bottom can be totally bone dry and if the San Bernard gets good rains it will flood.
The next day carp are there, thick. Bull red sized ones
When they bump into the boat it feels like I've been torpedoed
