    Engine fluid ID help

2018 F150 with 5.0. Walked out to the garage and there was a small puddle of pinkish fluid under the front of the truck. Noticed my coolant reservoir is low so I ASSUME it's coolant. Thought it might be transmission fluid as well but expected it would be much more red. Truck has 80k miles. Didn't snap a pic but if it's there tomorrow I will.

Check water pump, they are pretty common for leaking.

Could be Blinker Fluid, check it too!

      ... Sounds like coolant ...

Idle the truck and see whats squiring out. If you see a puddle it should be pretty obvious what it is by touch and feel. Have a 5.0 too leaking all sorts of things.

Ran it in the garage and nothing is visibly leaking. Guessing it leaks only under high pressure.

Possibly pin hole leak in a hose or radiator, etc ...

If it's the radiator you might be able to see where it has run down the cooling fins. If the water pump is going out it'll be a slow drip behind the fan.

It almost surely is coolant. Don't fry your engine.

Take it to the shop and have them pressure test the cooling system.
Its either going to leak or its something else.

Oil cooler etc. run around the block and trace it out. Dye kit helps but if you have a puddle it should be easy to track back the residue....

There’s a “y” fitting where the bottom hose goes into the engine and ties into a heater hose: factory one is plastic, has some o-rings inside it that can fail. pretty easy to change those o-rings., there’s just two clips that hold it on and it just slides together … BUT.. that fitting will also crack, very often. there’s some metal aftermarket replacements for it.

I had this issue on my 2014 f150 5.0. The o-rings flatten and no longer seal. I replaced the entire y-fitting.

Same here on a 2017. Most auto parts stores will have the Y fitting but not the o-rings to replace. Not that expensive so I'd just get the Y and replace.

Thanks to all. Truck still has a warranty left and is going in next week for some minor stuff, going to have them test the system and maybe they will just replace the Y connect anyway.
