That's right, 1942 STEEL, not 1943. Almost all pennies in 1943 were zinc coated steel. What I have here is a 1942. It is silver in color and it is magnetic. VJER Vic's brother has had it for years and asked me about it. I'm an amateur numismatist, but I can find very little information about a 1942 steel penny. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. - Sandy
I need a reputable coin shop/numismatist: 1942 STEEL penny.

1942 was made with "steel". It's the 1943 "Steel" worth a lot.
1942 D penny is somewhere in the $1.00 rang and if in great condition maybe $10-15
1942 S penny $0.25 to $3.00 uncirculated over $1000
No mint mark can be a few dollars to uncirculated and I don't know..
There are some errors, most popular are the double die stamp

If they are still there, Houston Numismatic Exchange on Times in the Rice Village has been grand central for that sort of thing to my knowledge in the Houston area. Reputable would be a fair and accurate description. Full disclosure, I have never been a coin collector and my use of their services is limited to the sale of jewelry and some Krugerrands I inherited, but I got the reference from an avid collector 35 years ago.👍 1Comment
