In Good Times and Bad, Pray

In my distress I called to the Lord.
    —Psalm 18:6

.Charles Swindoll tells about a flight in 1968 when the plane’s landing gear failed to engage. The pilot announced: “We are beginning our final descent. In accordance with International Aviation Codes established at Geneva, it is my obligation to inform you that if you believe in God, you should commence prayer.”

I don’t know if that is fact or fiction, but I do know that crises have a way of motivating us to reach for God.

Andrew Solzhenitsyn said, “It was only when I lay there on rotting prison straw that I sensed within myself the first stirrings of good. . . . So bless you, prison, for having been in my life.”

The psalmist wrote: “It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees” (Ps 119:67, 71).

The power of prayer is in the One
who hears it. Talk to him.
