I'm not sure who it speaks more to, Ryan or Rose, but Rose had a career .261 avg against Nolan......Zero doubles, zero triples, and zero HRs. I know a great pitcher will beat a great hitter, but for Nolan to have that kind of success against arguably the best contact hitter every in baseball is pretty amazing.Comment

Thanks for the links, I ended up watching all PLUS a cpl more with Pete, whats amazing is how these guys can remember everything including pitch, count and situation. I listened to Michael Berry interview Nolan Ryan, among other things he talked about his 12 one hitters and THE pitch and THE batter that got the hit, hitting batters was a funny part check it out, its a 3 part interview.Well cut my legs off and call me shortyComment

My youngest son got to meet his childhood idol at spring training 02 or 03, if 02 it was in Fort Myers Fl if 03 it was in Surprise Az I can't remember. He along with several other pitchers were throwing at the pitchers station he told me Ryan was with the Rangers pitching coach Orel Hershizer. Son said they watched the pitchers for a while and here they came, said he about pooped when he realized they were coming to talk with him...."Jeffrey from Texas, what part of Texas" they made some small talk then talked about pitching and his arm. After practice Nolan signed balls for every player from rookies to triple A. Knowing my son was from SE Tex he asked him if he knew where Alvin was, my son replied "yes I pitched at a field named after you in an All-star tourn" "well did you win" son told him "no, I pitched a 2 hitter and we lost" Nolan laughed and said I've pitched in too many of them.
