Not sure it's the best but just for grins, we caught them in Duke's traps using Buc-ee's beaver nuggets. One of them had both hands in the trap.

The OP didn't state if he was using DPs or leghold, sardines are not used in DPs/dog proof... can be BUT the preferred bait is marshmallows or dry dog/cat food. The only way around ants is trapping in water OR poison.

Paul, my dads buddy who is the property owner, is headed up tomorrow and the Duke traps are going out. I will let him know to leave a note for any lucky enough to not get caught to head down to your place! I’ve always used corn with a drizzle of bacon grease. Also put a golf ball on top to keep mice out and act as an indicator if anything has messed with it.
