    Coon Control

A few months ago I posted about the reduced number of coons showing on the game cams.

Well they are back in large groups eating all the bait corn before the whitetails have a chance

The WT's come to the baited cams, but don't hang around long because the coons got there first

Some of the whitetails are showing they are pregnant.

Trap set, Rem .22 Speedmaster is loaded, will thin them till they get the message

    Buzzards got to eat to

You could save the meat for a rainy day for gumbo or for the next Gathering ... LoL
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
    Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.

Freeze’em and set up a roadside sale just before Juneteenth. Make sure to leave a foot on them. This is a profit thing. You can make money to buy more ammo.
I told them we’ve already got one

Or bring them to the Spring gathering and sell/barter them to our "neighbors".

Windy all night and still windy this morning

Bait odor too diluted to lure any on the upland

Will move to the bottom for tonight, a few on the cam there

Buzzard done put their order in,....have to take care of my sanitation crew first

This time of year the sow coons have that smell about them. Back when the fur was worth 15-20$ we sold the bodies for 5, today the fur is worth a cpl buks and you can get 10+ for the meat. I could sell 50 today.

I hate coons with a passion. I trap 1 - 2 a week for the last few years and they just keep coming.

They out foxed me last night

Put the bait (Kipper Snacks can) under the trap and they just pushed it over to get to it.

Pinned the trap to the ground for tonight

I don't hate them, but I saw a pair of woodducks looking for a nest site in some old growth hardwoods this morning.

                Woodies trumps coons lives here

From what I read above, you havn't trapped before, attach trap to a tree in standing water of about 2-3" deep, place trap against tree under water, cover with wet leaves (NO sticks) under water then rub a sardine >into< the tree 6" above waterline, bring axe handle with ya the next morning....knock him out then drown .

I put the bait (can of cat food) inside the trap.

I thought you were using 'leghold' traps, I use those for armadillers, everything else gets legholds or DPs

Kweber he's talking about dog proof Duke traps, ya bait them with small marshmellows or dry cat food.

I'm not a fan of leg traps

No chance of releasing non targeted animals unharmed

I have a few inherited ones, but they are just cabin wall decor now

I made some cash back in the day. Seems I was getting 15 a hide and 5 for the meat. Had to make sure you left one foot on the meat though.

Somewhere I have a pic of my dad and over 100 coonskins and one bobcat hanging on a closeline getting ready to take to the fur buyer.

All proceeds will go to paying "salaries" to my sanitation crews

The Mexican eagles are by the tree taking a siesta, the black buzzards and turkey vultures were still hard at it

had to turn the cam off or the card would be filled with incoming flights
