He never thinks of cutting back in case we have a disaster. The whole country is shouting for them to cut cut. Does he listen ? Nope ! They just passed another 1.2 tril bill. What's in the bill who knows ? They only gave them 24 hours to read it. When the new rule states 72 hours in advance. FJB!
To be fair, Trump would have said the same thing if it had happened during his term. He offered up the same taxpayer cash after the hurricane hit Puerto Rico, storms in Utah, Hurricane Harvey for our own area, and let's not even talk about Covid.. That's what government does, and at some level it has some elements of what they're supposed to actually do.

There's the system, then there's Joe Biden. He's just spending the money that Congress lets him, just like every president before him for quite a while. Doesn't do much good to blame him, he's not really the problem here.

Stuff happens, but it is great opportunity to look at these people’s in charge plans and budgets. As far as I’m concerned you better have a freaking plan in writing. We seem much to reactive and never proactive. It was way too easy to take that bridge out. Where was it in the budget to get protective barriers? How many others are there and where are they in the process? You can bet your ass that there are pretty of “newcomers” watching and learning.

There's been a moderate amount of scuttlebutt about the funding already existing for the protective barriers on similar bridges all around the country, I'm guessing they just aren't flashy enough: you can hang your political name career on getting a new bridge built, but a few bumpers around the pilings that nobody but some foreigners in freighters ever actually sees up close? Not a real priority.

They've already got one of those, but you can't run a hazmat truck through that.

Rudder will stay in whatever position it's in when power loss occurs.

Don't recall the exact term, but I think a vessel owner can declare the ship a salvage loss, meaning their liability is limited to the vessel and cargo salvage value? In effect a mini-bankruptcy limited to one ship. Was used by titanic owners to limit liability.

Does that apply to the damage to the iceberg too? the ship isn’t a total loss here.

I'm not familiar with details, but would think "liability" would cover damage to iceberg as well. Not sure what came of it, but remember that it was brought up when Evergreen's vessel got stuck and blocked the Suez canal years ago.

yes, but remember there are union jobs involved. Anyone remember the big west coast port strikes years ago? The guys making $100 per hour holding a clipboard striking against the use of bar code technology.

Add realtime ml and AI on top of that. Whatever happened probably was a culmination of compounding failures which could be prevented. Easier said.
